Novica Package

I won a gift card for Norvica and my package arrived today.  I ordered Cobalt Spiral glasses.  They are hand made, blown glass and are made in Mexico. They shipped from Mexico so I was worried they might get broke is shipping. I actually thought they were in a warehouse in the US.
I opened the box and every glass was wrapped with a cardboard protector.  I am happy to say all of my cups arrived safely in one piece.  I am so excited and can’t wait to use them.

Reusable Cloth Wipes

Reusable cloth wipes have been on my list of things to make.  I have had flannel to make the reusable wipes for sometime now.  I decided to make the wipes 8×8 and will finish them with a zig zag stitch.  I plan on folding them to fit in a wipe box and I am hoping someone has an empty box I can have.
As you can tell the fabrics are girly prints.  I really think the baby is a girl.  However, I will not know until the end of September. Seems like a long time to wait.  Which is funny since I wasn’t going to find out the baby’s sex but now I need to know.  I want to be able to have a name and start getting everything ready for him or her.
There is a lot of stuff to do around the house before baby gets here and before the big move.  One thing down alright half way done..  umm in process.   How many wipes do I need?  I was thinking 40 wipes?

Kid Speak

I was rocking my almost four year old daughter tonight and she asked, “are you having twins?” I told her “nope there is only one.” She was slightly upset and asked why there was only one baby because she wants two. Then began a long discussion. “Why did God only give you one baby?” I told her God puts the babies in the mommy’s bellies and the mommy’s don’t pick how many or if they are a boy or girl. She tells me she wants to know if the baby is a girl and she wants two. She ask me if the baby will have her hair color or her sister’s color. I love that this little girl is so curious about the baby. After having the discussion with her I almost wish there were twins. I think about how excited she is and wonder what it would be like to have twins. I will be able to see see since my brother-in-law and his wife will have twins later this year. We have already had our ultrasound and there was only one baby. Trust me, I asked. My little girl started talking twins before we told them so I asked and she asked me after we left the doctor. I know it is something strange to write but I want to remember this when she is older.

Baby Watch

The royal baby was born today…. a PRINCE.  It was exciting to watch and wait for news to see weather a prince or princess would arrive.
I had decided that I would annouce my own pregnancy today.  Well before all the royal baby excitement.  I’m twelve weeks today and our first appointment was two weeks ago.  I had a dating ultrasound and it was reading 5-7 days ahead.  The last measurement was 10 weeks plus 5 days and the due didn’t need to be changed.  So we will have our own baby watch around February 3, 2014.
I habe been asked what the heartbeat rate was, so people could guess at the sex.  The doctor didn’t listen to it but we seen it on the ultrasound.   I asked her if she heard it and she said that they don’t listen for it until the next appointment.  Four week until the next appointment and we can hear the heartbeat.   Two months until the big ultrasound!  I still haven’t decided if we will find out.  Part of me really wants to wait because I always found out… but how can I plan if I don’t know.

Sunday Cooking: Refrigerator Pickles and Zucchini Brownies

The past few weeks we have been getting vegetables from our CSA.  We didn’t use many of the vegetables last week, my lack of cooking.  I didn’t want anything to go bad so I decided to attempt to make refrigerator pickles with the cucumbers.  I guess in 48 hours will know if I succeeded.  I only had one quart size jar so I decided to break out the Heritage Ball jars I had.  First things they get to hold is……. dill pickles!

Ball Heritage Collection Blue Canning Jars

I decided to make pickles on the spur of the moment so I didn’t have the ingredients on hand.  Hmmm, pickling salt…. Where do you buy this?  Oh wait did I see that at the grocery store?  Let me call and check!  I called the grocery store and asked, ” do you carry pickling salt?”  The girl on the phone replied, “Pickling salt? Hmm.  Let me check.”  A few minutes later she let me know they did carry it so off I went to get all the stuff on the list.

Ingredients for Refrigerator Pickles

Everything ready to make pickles!  I just looked up a recipe for refrigerator pickles and it said dill, so I thought…. TRY IT!

Refrigerator Dill Pickles, take ONE!

Pickles in the jar, brine on the pickles and they are cooling off.  YES, I need to put the lids on.  Cool and place them in the frig for 48 hours, at least.  Can’t wait to try them!!!

All the ingredients for zucchini brownies.

The next thing on my list was zucchini brownies!  I never liked zucchini as a kid…. well unless it was zucchini bread or zucchini brownies.  I mean really who doesn’t love zucchini brownies?  WHO?  I have been thinking about these for a month or so.  My mom used to make them and I loved them.  My oldest daughter said “yuck, brownies with zucchini!  I am not eating those.”  Well at tonight they were the bedtime snack.  After she brushed her teeth and gave me hug and kiss, she tells me they were GOOD.  “I think they are better than regular brownies!”  There you have it from a 10 year old, veggie-hating girly.

Refrigerator pickles and zucchini brownies.

There you have it….. zucchini brownies, refrigerator dill pickles and clean dishes!  I actually accomplished something today!

We made to Michigan.  We are enjoying the trees and fields.  We stopped to get ice cream and I had to get a picture of the girls with the cornfield background.  I miss the country!

April~ Smithfield

My friend invited me to be her guest at the Smithfield Home and Garden Show.  Wow, it was amazing!  I have always want to do a home show and this was my first.  A few years ago my hubby and I went to the Coastal Living Home in Norfolk.  I was so excited to go out a tour of houses and in good company.  Historical homes, they shared the history behind the homes which it so interesting.  I love hearing about the people who have lived there in the past and at a few of the homes learning about the people who currently live there.  Here are a few of the pictures from the tour, well around town and such.

In the Kitchen~ Chocolate Oatmeal Fudge

I’m trying to keep sweets out the house but sometimes you need a little something.  Hmm, I remembered that old cookbook I bought at an estate sale.  I remember thinking, “when I buy an old cookbook I am going to look and see if there are any recipes marked.  Those are the recipes I want to try.”  In the estate sale cookbook there was a recipes for Chocolate Oatmeal Fudge… aka no bake cookies.  YEP, that will hit the spot!  My little helper and I make ourselves a batch of chocolate oatmeal fudge.  Since the recipe referred to it as fudge I decided to try it in a 9×13 pan.  It is a little hard to get out once it is completely set.  Next time we will be doing cookies but they are yummy.
Prep and recipe.  The cover is ripped of the front but recipe is marked!

Little helper, measuring the oatmeal.
